Georgia's Elective Diary: Part 9 (Grazzi Hafna Malta, ciao ciao, bye bye bye)

The time has come to say a fond farewell to this little island in the Mediterranean, my time in Malta having come to an end. It was so hard saying goodbye to the great friends I've made over the last six weeks, and now that I've managed to stop crying (typical Georgia), I thought I'd share some of my favourite experiences, and things I've learnt from the last month and a half.  Things I'll miss: Impromptu dance parties in flat four to Uptown Funk or Take Me to Church. Or maybe it was just me that had the dance parties. I think everyone else watched... I will forever associate these songs with Malta. Late night/early evening/late afternoon/early afternoon trips to The Compass for cocktails, or just any sort of alcohol. Getting shitty service one night, and then management getting angry with their staff, and getting incredible service fro then on. Plus, free cake on my birthday was pretty fantastic!  Julia's earworm of the day. 95% of the time it was Total Eclipse...

Georgia's Elective Diary: Part 8 (Gozo frostbite, the Feast of St Paul's Shipwreck and other exciting tales)

I haven't really posted any stories about Malta life, or some of the adventures we've gotten up to on this tiny island so far, but I thought it was time. With people in our apartments from all over the world (Germany, Belgium, England, Scotland, Ireland, Australia, South Korea, Romania, and of course us Kiwis) there are always people around who are keen to go on adventures, or explore some of the different things Malta has to offer.  One weekend, we planned a trip to Malta's second largest island, Gozo. The ferry to Gozo is an hour away by bus, so very early one Saturday morning we found ourselves at the bus stop, ready for a long day ahead. Unfortunately (?) for us, we'd had a rather large night the night before, celebrating mine and another birthday that happened to fall on consecutive days, with a big night out in Paceville, Malta's  party district. For some, this meant one hour of sleep, while for others it meant an early morning beer to get going. While waiting...

Georgia's Elective Diary: Part 7 (a Roman Holiday, and London Calling)

Yet again I've left the time between blog posts to creep up on me, and yet again a lot has happened since I last posted. I'm now in my final week of placement in Malta, and can't believe how quickly the time has gone. Before I know it I'll be back in New Zealand, just in time to miss the tail end of summer... At the end of my third week, I hopped on a plane on a Friday and headed off to Italy, to spend a few days in Rome! Having been a Latin and then Classics scholar through high school, Rome was a must for me on this trip, and my three days in the city definitely did not disappoint! Arriving on Friday night, I made my way to the hostel (four seasons rome, would not recommend) and then went out for my first authentic Italian pizza - delicimo!! Day two and I set off early, on the hunt or some  much needed coffee on my way to the historic centre of the city. The cappuccinos I had that morning (two, plus a croissant for €4.00) were still the best coffees I've had in th...
