2014: In Review (Part 2)
Alright, I'm going to jump on the bandwagon a little bit late, and also because I feel bad for Georgia having done all the posting, as I currently have no life. However, we can still take a trip down memory lane, when I did have a life and what a very busy, fulfilling life it was. I miss it.
Apologies in advance for the extremely long post. What can I say? I love ranting.
January
I moved into my new flat all by myself (I mean...with the paid help of some movers of course, sure as hell wasn't gonna cart my bed base and mattress half an hour across town). I learnt that I am very good at packing under pressure. The rest of January was a bit lonely though, aside from the fact that Lily came to visit me!! Shreya was also here for her birthday weekend which was so much fun. I won #SluttySummer by some ridiculous miracle. AND THEN I got to be a part of Gee's 22nd birthday party and video via Skype, which was the best thing about January (sorry Tinder). I love that my Wellington friends refuse to let go of me even though I am apparently going to be studying in Dunedin for the rest of my life at the rate I'm going.
February
Things started to get less lonely. I read a lot of books, went to a lot of meetings, and led a focus group or two for my psychology group study on HPV (holla at me if you ever want to read the report, it's almost out for the world to see, and my name's on it!) and then my other flatmates moved in, and it was already better than every other flat I have every lived in (even with the implementation of the low FODMAP diet - look it up). Tory had flowers delivered to me for Valentines Day, and that went down a lot better than the last time someone sent me flowers for Valentines Day. I started back at work, which was intense, because I worked almost every night of O-Week. As Gee mentioned, we started doing #30DaysOfFashion and it gave me a purpose to get dressed and take awkward photos of myself. It was so much fun figuring out my wardrobe's real potential.
March
Suddenly uni was starting (so naturally on the first Wednesday of the semester I missed my one class.) I started tutoring which was so much more awkward than it should have been. But then I went home for the weekend for the Colour Run, that awesome shopping trip with Georgia and Romana, and the Veronica Mars movie with Tory. I deleted Tinder because Tinder boys were stupid and I was sick of them (Just remember that I said this, ok?).
April
I went bowling with work buddies, which was lots of fun even though I'm worse at bowling than I used to be (and it's not because of the kiddy rail thing that you push the ball off which makes it go in a straight line - I never used that thing ok). I also went to a 21st of a friend-of-a-friend, with another friend-of-a-friend and because we only knew each other there we spent the entire time becoming best friends with the bartender and then it turned into the most awful weekend of my life. I did buy some great bras while surprisingly not-that-hungover the next day though, so it actually wasn't 100% awful. I also marked essays, and came to the conclusion that there are many people who don't know how to follow instructions.
May
I'm gonna get deep and meaningful with you for a sec. In May, my sister came to visit. I learnt something very important about myself and that is I do not want to be like my sister. If I could tell my younger self anything at all it would be "Don't aspire to be like your sister", because that's all I ever did growing up and now I'm glad that it wasn't something I forced myself into. There are so many things I admire about her, but that visit made me realise just how different we are and how ok I was with that. It also snowed later on in May, which was actually quite nice, even though my street is a bit like a death-trap when it snows. Luckily I ran into Jessie while I was tip-toeing my way down my hill and she gave me a ride to uni. I marked more essays, and it upset me to know that people still didn't know how to follow instructions.
June
Even though we were all cramming for exams, I re-installed Tinder, this time out of study-break boredom and the desire to troll the stupid Tinder boys because let's face it, most of them deserve it for being so ridiculous. That was rather successful and hilarious until I started chatting to a couple of legitimately nice guys, one of whom I am now dating (would you believe that it's still really weird for me to say that I have a boyfriend?). We celebrated Georgia's (the one I live with) birthday with style at a fancy cocktail place that I'd never been to before. And then I went home to go on the best trip of my life with some of my best friends. If I could replay any event from this year, that trip would be it.
July
Semester Two started off with my sister declaring the silent treatment at me, which was lovely but AIN'T NOBODY GOT TIME FO DAT (I'm kidding, I spent a lot of time being unnecessarily anxious about it). I did #100HappyDays and the Ice Challenge because I just can't stay away from the bandwagon.
August
Work function got ridiculous as soon as we sat down to dinner, thanks to the coin game. Even my boss got to down his glass of wine several times during that dinner. I did more tutoring (and didn't fall off my chair once this semester), I marked more essays, and it was apparent that some people would maybe never learn how to follow instructions. I went to Invercargill and met Andrew's parents which to me was a little bit like being flung into a pool after two months of learning how to walk, which is actually how I learnt to swim when I was a toddler. But just like my toddler self, I stunned the audience like a pro ;) We also went on a day-trip to Queenstown, which was absolutely gorgeous.
September
Birthday month! My birthday was awesome, I had so much coffee, and even though I had to tutor at 9am that day (meaning I had to leave my house at 8am if I wanted to stop for my annual birthday Starbucks), the only thing that was really terrible was that one of my classes was super boring and I wish I had ditched it. But I got treated to my very own birthday cake at Nando's and then I went to my other job where they wrote "Happy Birthday Noodles" on the menu board and the freshers wished me happy birthday as they got their dinner. I marked more essays and realised that I am one of the people who can't follow instructions. Oops
October
I crammed my face off for exams, I didn't even recognize myself by the end of it. After my last exam I played 1989 until I knew all the lyrics (except for Bad Blood. I do not have the Mad Love for that song). I also had another rough night reunion-ing it with my scarfies and i thoroughly regret (some of) it. I dressed up as a mad zombie scientist for Halloween and it was one of my proudest moments.
November
Aside from doing almost nothing, I did a lot of touristy things with visiting people as well as old friends. I also entered Knox College (a.k.a the majestic castle-like college) for the first time and it was not as impressive as the outside.
December
I finally FINALLY graduated! It really wasn't a disaster even though it was so close to being a disaster (especially since I never thought I would actually graduate). Emily took some great photos, and de-stressed me without even trying to. I got accepted into the Master of Indigenous Studies programme (which I currently still know next to nothing about). Intisar and I managed to keep our tradition of our homemade pizza extravaganza and Christmas Day Nando's. It was magical.
I AM A SUCCESS DAMN IT!!!! BRING ON 2015.
